경인교육대학교 국어교육과 교수 미디어리터러시연구소 소장

미디어 교육 분야로 영국 University of London Institute of Education(현 UCL Institute of Education)에서 박사학위를 받았다. 어린이와 청소년의 미디어/디지털 리터러시, 학교 안팎의 미디어/디지털 리터러시 학습과 실천을 위한 교육, 교수학습, 교재 정책 개발, 교사 교육과 디지털 페어런팅, 어린이의 소셜 미디어와 디지털 플랫폼 이해 등에 관심을 갖고 연구와 교육을 하고 있다. “미디어 문해력(media literacy) 향상을 위한 교실수업개선방안 연구”(교육부 교육과정정책과, 2015), “초중등 교과서의 미디어 리터러시 교과서 단원 개발 연구”(교육부 교과서정책과, 2016), “2015 개정 교육과정 교수학습자료 개발 연구”(교육부, 인천시교육청, 2018) 등의 주요 정책 과제의 책임을 맡았고, “교과교육에서의 디지털 리터러시 교육 실태 분석 및 개선 방안 연구”(한국교육과정평가원, 2018)의 공동연구원으로 참여하는 등 국가 수준의 교육과정에 미디어 리터러시와 디지털 리터러시를 반영하기 위한 정책 연구를 수행하여 사회적 담론의 근거를 만들어왔다.

현재 한국언론진흥재단 미디어리터러시위원회 위원, 한국정보화진흥원 디지털 포용 포럼 위원, 인천시청자미디어센터 발전협의회 위원으로 봉사하고 고, 경인교육대학교 미디어리터러시연구소(http://sites.google.com/ginue.ac.kr/medialiteracy/)를 설립해, 디지털 전환 시대의 미디어 리터러시 연구와 교육을 다학문적, 융합교육적으로 준비하고 실천하고자 노력하고 있다.

I am Professor of Media literacy education at the Department of Korean Education and the Faculty of Master’s Program of A.I. Education at the Gyeongin National University of Education. I am Director of Center for Media Literacy Research at the same university.

My research interests are focused on children and young people’s media and digital literacy practices in and out-of-school settings; developing curriculum, classroom activities and teaching materials for media and digital literacy education; teachers’ agency and roles in media and digital  literacy education; young people’s critical understanding of social media and digital platforms; and digital parenting.

I recently directed policy research on Innovative classroom practices for media literacy education (Ministry of Education, 2015), Developing models of school textbook units for media literacy education (Ministry of Education, 2016), Systematizing news literacy education (Korea Press Foundation, 2016), Developing Classroom Materials of Media Literacy Education for 5th and 6th Graders (Ministry of Education, 2018), and contributed as a co-researcher on the policy research on Digital Literacy Across the Curriculum in South Korea: Current State and Suggestions for the Future(Korean Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation, 2018).

I have widely advised on policies of media and digital literacy education for public institutions including Korea Press Foundation, National Information Agency, and Community Media Foundation Incheon Center.

I was one of the keynote speaker of 2018 Hong Kong MES and organized a workshop on algorithm literacy education at the 2019 Seoul International Media and Information Literacy Conference.

I have contributed chapters to Media Education in Asia (Springer, 2009), Mapping Media Education Policies in the World (Communicar, 2010), New Media and Learning in the 21st Century (Springer, 2015), Learning Beyond the School (Routledge, 2019) and International Encyclopedia of Media Literacy (Wiley, 2019).  

I am the founder of the Center for Media Literacy Research at the Gyeongin National University of Education(http://sites.google.com/ginue.ac.kr/medialiteracy-english), working together with colleagues with multidisciplinary backgrounds for new approaches to media literacy in the age of digital transformation.
